The Slither Sisters: Tales from Lovecraft Middle School #2

The Slither Sisters - Charles Gilman

The presentation of this book is just as amazing as book one in this awesome series. I think this is my favourite cover so far, it's uber cool and creepy!

The previous book in this series ended on a great cliffhanger, we discovered the truth about the missing twins and why they were taken. The Slither Sister starts six weeks after Robert's first day at Lovecraft Middle School, and the nightmares aren't getting any easier for Robert. Robert and his best friend Glenn discovered the connection between the school and the creepy Tillinghast mansion, they also know that Sarah and Sylvia Price aren't themselves.

These two boys want to tell someone the truth, but in a school full of portals and monsters who can they really trust? Now the boys know the truth about the school, and the dangers that lie ahead, they're on a mission to find out what Sarah and Sylvia are up to. Where do they keep vanishing to every day at lunch?.. and why does Sarah really want to be elected for president of the student council?.. and what has this got to with the entire seventh grade?

We get to learn more about the main characters in this book. Robert has problems with his appeareance and self confidence, I like that we get to see this other side to him. Glenn also talks about doing chores, like washing his clothes, it seems he prefers staying at Roberts house, than his own. I'm glad that Glenn and Robert are now friends, Glenn doesn't bully people anymore, maybe he was lonely and just wanted a friend.

The Slither Sisters is a great creepy book, I loved it! The pace is a bit quicker, there's action and adventure right from the start. I was hooked from the beginning and I didn't want to put it down. The writing feels familiar and vivid, I can imagine myself being at the school, getting lost in the library or running away from giant tentacles and weird sea creatures.

I liked the new characters I was introduced to, such as Howard Mergler and Mr Lavinia, and we learned more about the the monsters and demons hiding out at the school. The ending was brilliant, and I can't wait for Teachers Pest, book three in this awesome series.

5 out of 5 stars, a new favourite that I'd happily read all over again.
